Want to lose weight? Eat more!

Yes, you heard me right. I’m suggesting that you may need to eat more to lose weight. At certain times, that is. Let me explain.
If you exercise vigorously and you don’t eat properly both before and after, you could end up burning more muscle than fat. To help your body take advantage of that hard workout, you need to eat before and after. Susan Kleiner, PhD, Rd, and coauthor of Power Eating says this: “Everyone needs to eat around the time of their workout, whether their goal is health, performance or weight loss. When you eat around exercise, you increase the rate of calorie burning.”
Before exercise, you need a small, high carb meal. Best time is 1 to 2 hours before you exercise. Your body needs the carbs to power the exercise. Of course, I’m not talking about donuts and cookies here! Go for whole grains or fruits instead and your body will thank you.
After your workout, you need to replenish quickly with something that’s easy to digest. Consider a smoothie with fruit and some protein powder or soy milk. Recent research showed that this carb-protein snack after exercise helps you build lean muscle mass and lose fat. Cinch shake mix is great for this. Mix it with fruit or juice and you’re good to go.
Eat the right things at the right time and you’ll give your body a nudge in the right direction.
